Eduardo went to the OR around 4pm on February 12. While he was first there, they took some more samples for biopsy and waited for the results before performing the surgery. The results all came back clear, no cancer! At around 9pm they started the transplant and by 3A.M. the next morning they were finished. The surgeon was pleased with the results and Eduardo's response to the surgery.
I spoke with the family around 3p.m. on the 13th and Eduardo was already extubated! They hadn't planned on removing his breathing tube till the 14th, but he was doing so well they were able to do it sooner.
Eduardo's mom sounded relieved, optimistic, and very happy. So, far he is handling the recovery very well, with no fevers. Initially, they said he would be in the ICU for only 2 days, then they plan to move him to the floor.
We couldn't ask for better results at this point!
Thanks for following along...
